Where to stay in Edinburgh
Edinburgh hotels & accommodations
We were trying to decide between two hotels for our visit to Edinburgh for the last weekend of the Fringe Festival and Edinburgh Tattoo - their busiest time of the year. When looking at the photos of the two hotels, the Scotsman appealed to us more than the other from the decor. But the decider was that one of my daughters who, as a young college student 6 years earl...
Firstly, check-in was a breeze. We arrived Edinburgh early and hotel got our room ready for early check-in. Though the apartment was on the 4th floor with no lifts, the service staff helped to carry our luggages up. The bedroom is comfortable. The living room and well-stocked kitchen were also of good size, we even had a chance to bake an apple pie! The only drawbacks ...
We stayed in two rooms, both were beautifully decorated, clean, couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. Location wise it's very central, right across from Edinburgh Castle. Highly recommended.
This is the second time we stayed in the George Hotel in Edinburgh and it was every bit as good as we remembered. The rooms are to a high standard, the staff were helpful, very polite and nothing was too much trouble for them. Look forward to our next visit
This hotel was the only one's hotel in Edinburgh which has affordable price while summer festival. Most of the hotel was fully booked, and the others have non-affordable price and not value for money. And this hotel was the right choice! For a small hotel, it has quite good facilities because it has kitchen in the room! The staffs were friendly. Because I booked this h...
One of the best hotel i ever visited. Centrally located and very close to any main attraction in Edinburgh. We got upgraded to 3 bedroom and everything about it is perfect. All bedroom is fully furnished and heater in every room. The kitchen is also awesome which have everything we need to cook and also free bread and milk for our breakfast. There are also a dining roo...
Great! Simply Great for an affordable price! Hotel management knows their differences compared to other city hotels, and they are trying their best to cover up those differences. The room was wonderful with all the amenities provided with regard to its price. Layout of the room was good too, not too narrow, and the wide bathroom. Also the view from the windows was...
In previous years, I've used one of the many (and increasing in number) budget hotels in central Edinburgh, and despite the increased competition prices are going up, noticeably. As of 2018, if you go Edinburgh budget hotel in January, you can get a windowless box room with a shower cubicle or, for much the same price, you can get a room at Palmerston Suites: a spaciou...
Lovely old hotel that has been tastefully modernised. It is in an excellent position near Edinburgh. We used the bus service from outside the hotel grounds into Edinburgh, so no worries re car parking or getting stuck in traffic! It takes just 35 minutes. The food and service is good and the junior turret suite we chose, was perfect, very roomy with a really comfortabl...
This was the room with the best value booked throughout our entire holiday. The location of the hotel is so convenient, 2 stops (by bus if you are not keen on walking with luggage) from Waverley Station, has several bus stops in front of the hotel where you can hop on a bus to everywhere including the airport, and if you prefer walking, Edinburgh Castle and Princes Str...
We found this Hotel to be very convenient for our purposes. The Staff were very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Any extra items i.e. towels coffee etc. were obtained from the desk without any problem. The rooms were very clean and serviced every day. As it was very hot and no A/C in room, it became a bit uncomfortable to sit in the room for...
this was one of the best stay we ever had for Europe trips. The apartment is nicely size. With a nice sofa area, a full kitchen with all the utensils, bowls and plates. There was oven and a washing machine. Toilet is good size too. The Tv screen had helpful information and the staffs were very friendly and helpful. Prior to this we stayed in a 4 stars hotel in London a...
The location of the hotel is a bit of a walk from the main train station. For travellers with big luggages, cab will be the best option. Room is very comfortable, cosy and clean. Hotel does not have a lift, travellers with big and or multiple bags should request for ground level rooms. No laundry services and food services (other than breakfast) in the hotel, the neare...
Stayed here for 4 nights in the single room on 13-17 April 2019. Was greeted warmly upon arrival, check in was smooth sailing & was pleasantly shown to my room within 20 minutes upon arrival (very much appreciated after 20 hours of travel from Malaysia). Everywhere you look is a feast to the eyes, the decor was beautifully done, comfy rooms, great breakfast selection ...
The bed was comfortable, the room very clean, the hotel is modern. It is directly across from the train station (Note: this is the Haymarket stop, not the main Edinburgh stop. It's 5 minutes down the line from Edinburgh). It's on a street with lots of restaurant and shopping options. It is right across the street from a bus line and light rail line, so all of Edinb...
What a delightfully elegant and charming hotel. Very friendly and helpful hotel staff greeted me when I checked in. The owner's son was also very professional and helpful during my visit. I enjoyed my stay at the Ballantrae Hotel, given it was my first time in Edinburgh. My room had been recently redecorated, so the promotional picture is accurate in its rendition of a...
The Carlton hotel in Edinburgh was a perfect base for our business meeting just around the corner. The hotel was impressive to look at but not at all stuffy. The staff were efficient and friendly and made my stay comfortable and stress free. I had numerous printing requests and they were done to a high standard.
The hotel has a interesting history and warm feel a home away from home. A nice little in-house bar and multiple lounge areas. The rooms were a good size although our room was below street level with limited natural light, I would recommend asking for a room on the upper levels. The staff were great and secured expensive items that were left behind for a week to enable...
From start to finish we had a really pleasant stay. The hotel itself is stunning with the décor etc, our room was huge, it had a small but compact bathroom which was also very nice. The breakfast was lovely and served very quickly. Check in and out was brilliant and they stored our cases for us so we could go and explore Edinburgh without having to worry about them....
Very beautiful hotel however you are paying a premium for this - right opposite Edinburgh Castle - they are many beautiful historic hotels in Edinburgh.
This is a great place to stay as the apartment was very spacious with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living and kitchen area with all the facilities you could need. Easy to drive to, avoiding the centre of Edinburgh traffic and free parking outside. The bus to Edinburgh was easy, with the stop just a short walk away - £4 for an all day ticket, but be sure you have the righ...
This hotel is a must when you're staying in Edinburgh. The central location was awesome, within walking distance to the Edinburgh Castle, city gardens, the Royal Mile and Old Town, train and bus stations not to mention the hop on hop off buses. The hotel room was quirky and spacious. If you happen to stay in the Cairo room, mind your head around the hanging ceiling lig...
My stay in Apex Waterloo Place Hotel is perfect! The hotel is located at the city center and visitors can easily travel to different tourist points and restaurant under walkable distance. The hotel is just right next to the Edinburgh Christmas Carnival and the tourist meeting point for local tour "rabbies" so that I can fully utilise the time I stayed in Edinburgh. ...
this are very spacious apartment. stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment which must have been around 100 square meters. location is good as you can walk everywhere. But actually edinburgh is quite small so you can walk from anywhere anyway. If you want really central, you can stay on the royal mile or grassmarket as there are more shops and restaurant in that area . but...
Have stayed her before, and still one of our best hotels, room on the small side. But was sufficient for our two night stay, Tea & Coffee, Fridge, Hairdryer, and very clean. Bus right outside hotel front door, into Edinburgh city centre, first class breakfast each morning, something for everyone, from cereal to a full cooked. Would recommend if staying in Edinburgh.
The apartments at The Chambers Hotel in Edinburgh, were in a great location, just a minutes walk from the Royal Mile, and 5 minutes walk to Edinburgh Castle. The apartments were stylish, spacious, very well appointed and very modern with old world charm.
I never write reviews however I really feel at home during my stay at the DoubleTree By Hilton Hotel Edinburgh City Centre! Their goal is to make their guest feel spoiled rotten, since the people at the checking to the room service people. they provide an excellent service and makes you want to stay and never gonna leave PS: their cookies are second to none !
as you know finding a hotel in edinburgh for a decent price can be testing at times and this place is no different but i do find that on the whole that they do try and keep the prices down without infringing on quality. the place is in a great location for visiting round down, close to train station and tourist areas. The staff have always been polite and friendly. roo...
I stayed at this hotel for 4D/3N with my family (husband and 3 children). This is my second time to Edinburgh but for the first time stayed at this hotel. We booked 2 superior rooms. The room is big enough but the bathroom is too small, the bed is very comfy. The reception staffs is friendly and helpfull, cause he gave me all the informations about the hotel. The locat...
Breakfast was good, but not impressed by the evening meal. But if you are wanting a decent well priced, fairly central location with clean rooms and decent whisky in the bar, this is the place for you. My wife and I came for the Christmas fair, and will definitely be staying at the Brittania Hotel in Edinburgh again.
Cheap places to stay in Edinburgh
Great and very safe facilities for a solo female traveller. The staff was fantastic and would help you with any issues that might arise. It's very camping/fringe mentality in August but if that's what you want, it's the perfect place to stay and meet very creative and interesting people. Straight bus connection to city centre. More than value for money.
Travelled to Edinburgh due to Fringe, the place is very clean, staff are all helpful and friendly. The mattress is good but it might be better to remind the visitors to respect others’ sleeping time. Some of my roommates slam the door very loudly when other people are still sleeping. It might be better to open a little space for some people who may need to use laptop f...
The communal areas are really nice decorated and the rooms were pretty basics and was relatively unattractive, but somehow clean, gotta share the bathroom and the showers with few other rooms but it's not so bad. it's easy to walk to the spots, the restaurants, the shops. also, the royal mile itself is an aged street. All along the royal mile is full of really nice caf...
The Hostel is a really good place if you want to spend a couple of days visiting Edinburgh. A friend a I spent 3 nights there and we found it absolutely suitable for our holiday: a bed in a good dormitory room (the other roomates were respectful and we found enough space for our stuff) and some bathrooms with clean toilets and showers (hot water never failed). We didn'...
I spent 3 night here and absolutely would stay again if I visit Edinburgh. Hotel location is really perfect. Its walking distance to Edinburgh castle, calton hill, royal mile. The room is clean and this hostel seems like well organize. Thanks!
It is in a nice location, downtown Edinburgh. This place is actually better than most of the reviews I read about it. I felt safe since the rooms are allocate by "flat" (no more than 3 rooms) which only allows people from those rooms to have access to that area, not the whole hostel. Besides there are at least 3 doors, well locked, before you get to your room. Again, I...
Highly recomended for a budget hostel in edinburgh. I should come and stay from the first day in edinburgh. But because the picture not so appealing, so i choose other hostel one fine day back from my highland tour, i booked this hostel to try out, because the best rate for the day. Surprised by the cleanliness, comfort of this hostel lift for your luagage First...
The ocation just beside twaverley station, 2 min from royal mile,5 min from edinburgh castel, and the fare also good for a solo traveler like me. Room is organized nicely, bathroom is very clran, the staff is very helpfull, and you it has lift, so need to drag your heavy lugage through the painful stairs. I will stay here longer if I visit Edinburgh.
Great location if you want to go to Edinburgh Castle, Edinburgh Dungeon and the University of Edinburgh. However, 10 minutes walking from Edinburgh Waverley Station is impossible because of the great gradient between the station and the hostel. It is harder than you think when you dragging big luggage. Besides, the facilities are great, clean and interesting. Free coff...
This place is maybe my favorite hostel after I stayed 4 different hostel in Edinburgh. Price is very cheap and no extra fee for padlock, towels, and breakfast with eggs( you cook as you like on your own) I don’t know how they can do that!! The bed is ok but can’t complain after you get all the above! The bed could be very tiny but I’m 5ft 1 so no problem to me:)
It is the best of the kind and the nice step The hotel is also clean and the location is fine
This is definitely the best hostel that I have ever stay! Staff are amazing and very friendly, breakfast is simple but I can feel lots of love in it as the staff prepared it every morning. The place is tidy which I really appreciate it, the hostel is located in New Town and it took around 5 mins walk to Scott Monument so it is very convenient to go almost every main at...
Extremely cheap stay with sufficient facilities
The location of the hotel is a bit of a walk from the main train station. For travellers with big luggages, cab will be the best option. Room is very comfortable, cosy and clean. Hotel does not have a lift, travellers with big and or multiple bags should request for ground level rooms. No laundry services and food services (other than breakfast) in the hotel, the neare...
Demi, the owner of the hotel, is so considerate and kind. The family room is so spacious and tidy. Linens are clean. Bathroom is modern. So, if you are looking for a family hotel room to stay in Edinburgh, Adelphi hotel is the answer.
Booked quite late for 1 night to seea gig in Leith. Fantastic price, good location for Leith or Edinburgh. Spotlessly clean & comfy. Breakfast is available. Would stay again.
Our stay with young kids at Travelodge was great. Although the location is la bit away from city center but it is a good place to relax after enjoying the main attractions at the city center of Edinburgh
I went in Edinburgh with my friend for 2 days trip snd booked a private double room here. I was surprised to see that all the facilities were available, including plates or cutlery or anything you would ever need in everyday life !! It was certainly value for money . The staffs were friendly, room was clean & secured and there were 3 shared bathrooms in the apartment I...
I stayed in the Cumberland Hotel on 27th and 28th October. For my Graduation as it was very near within walking distance of the Usher Hall. I was in room number 1, which is a ground floor room, it had all facilities, very comfortable double bed, hairdryer TV and tea and coffee facilities, topped up daily, also ensuite had a shower which I like, temp was adjustable, ro...
its in very good location, just about 12-15 minutes walk from Edinburgh wavily station; the host was excellent, always smiling and helpful; though it is a hotel but with a personal touch like B&B type which you will like; They have just taken over the property couple of weeks ago and trying hard to improve the reputation. Edinburgh castle is also not far. They have the...
We came in Late and the gentleman that welcomed us was very very nice, he came to our room to show us where it was, he was sweet enough to open the bar and serve us Some wiskey and give us information about the culture and explained to us the Gaelic meaning of Slainte Mhath, witch means the good health! The room was confortable, and the bed also! I recommend this hote...
Location and buses excellent. Went out until really late and got into and out of Edinburgh with ease. Very clean hotel. Lots of everything provided. Very clear instructions. Easy to get in and out of the hotel and free parking. Really impressed with the value for money and will definitely be using again!
Checking in was fast, the free wifi is working fine for normal browsing, the staffs were very helpful with directions when I asked for directions to Arthur's seat. The rooms are clean and all the necessary items are provided (towels, shower gel, hair dryer, kettle). It would be better if there was one more rubbish bin in the room (there was only one bin in the toilet a...
This hotel is a good budget choice for Edinburgh, where most of the hotel rates border on extortion.
best night's sleep on my trip! the bed was super comfy, and the room was quiet--peaceful hotel. the room was charming, the bathroom spotless and sparkling; breakfast was generous and tasty--plenty of choice! i was fussy for fried eggs and that was not a problem. the staff was accommodating and couldn't do enough for me! they helped me out with my tour and taxi, plu...
my wife and I booked in to the Kings manor hotel for the week- end ,had a great time, good value for money, staff so helpful, the room was spacious with king size bed which was so comfortable, and shower had plenty hot water , complementary tea and coffee in the room , and many tv channels to chose from and free wi fi also .it also has a gym, swimming pool, jacuzzi, s...
Great location, understanding staff, clean room. However, our stay was spoilt by the following... Broken gutter meant heavy rain fell on window ledge below, thus causing loud sound that delayed us going to sleep. Walls are very thin - woken-up too early by other guests talking. Water filling adjacent room toilets/sinks very loud. Duvet far too thick for summer - fa...
The experience was awesome and it was a good value for money. Though there are no attached toilets in any of the rooms.
I'm from Malaysia, traveling with my little brother for university interview. This is the best place that I stayed during my entire trip in UK. Very cute and beautifully decorated house. The room is very cosy, warm and homely. It feels very much like home, more than a hotel. You can park in front of the guesthouse for free if you have a rented car. Just 5mins walk to t...

Castle view guest house is located in the central of Edinburgh which is only 30 mins by bus from the airport. Additionally, every interesting places are very close to the guest house. It takes only 15 mins on foot to go such as Edinburgh castle or Calton hill. The host is very friendly and nice guy who will really welcome to you.
Really, really enjoyed my stay at Tigerlily Hotel. Perfect location in Edinburgh. Hotel staff couldn't have been nicer.
We booked into Apex for Valentine's weekend. It is our favourite hotel in Edinburgh. The breakfast is wonderful with variety of choices. Staff are always helpful. The cafes across from the hotel are worth trying - love Petite Paris excellent quality food reasonably priced. Although it has limited parking there is a NCP car park round the corner.
this was our first trip to edinburgh and everyone we talked to told us to stay near the royal mile for the sights. the location of this hotel was exactly what we wanted. near to the royal mile but also near the restaurant area. we stayed 3 nights at the hotel. when we first arrived, the girl who checked us in was great. she made us feel very welcome and pointe...
First of all, the staff was incredible. They go above and beyond to accommodate guests. I was permitted an early check-in, late check-out, and they watched my bags during the gap between my check-out and my flight that evening. Secondly, the location is perfect. It's just outside the hustle and bustle of Old Town, but near enough so you are in the thick of the action w...
Very clean hotel that was easy to walk to the city center from. The staff was helpful in making sure we could catch a very early train on our last morning. Walking distance to Edinburgh Castle but it wouldn't be a recommended walk.
We had one of the garden level rooms and it was quiet, fairly spacious and had a lovely bathroom. The wifi was the best we had in our two weeks traveling around Scotland and we appreciated the bit of sherry left in the room for the guests. We were tired on arrival and decided to have dinner at the hotel our first night which was not only surprisingly good, but at ext...
Third stay at the Edinburgh Airport Hilton. Hotel gets top marks for the staff, who all took a personal interest in us given we are now regular ustomers. Rates are all over the place – at £140+ its expensive for what it is, some good deals down as low as £65 per night if you know how to play the system. Good points are that the hotel is in a great location for the...
We love staying at the Mode Edinburgh. Fantastic location in New Town - Quiet yet very near all the sights, restaurants and shopping. The hotel facilities are tip-top and the room is immaculate. Lots of nice touches in the room that make it feel like home. The staff were very helpful and friendly. After 3 days in the Highlands, when we came back to Mode Edinburgh a...
We have arrived earlier as we taking bus from London, kind staff recommend we can enjoy breakfast at the hotel. They have different choice of breakfast and tasty. Besides, my fd was stomachache when we arrive, staff who provide tea and the most suitable breakfast to my fd proactively. She is very caring n sweet . Moreover, there is a automatic sky window in the bedroom...
Stayed in four hotels during my Edinburgh trip. The Place was perfect as my last hotel to stay in. The location is just right in front of the tram station (to get to the airport). It's not exactly near the many attractions of the city but close enough for me to walk. Overall, I love the cleanliness and chic design of the room, and how friendly the front office personne...
In Edinburgh for a small private function at the Arthur Conan Doyle centre we booked an overnight stay but wish it had been longer! The small classic suite was well appointed with a most comfortable bed and a large bathroom with spa bath and separate shower. Wonderfully plump pillows , large fluffy bath towels and robes, one of the biggest plus points for me was FRESH ...
We had a really great stay. The house is lovely. Spotlessly clean in all areas. Freshly painted with new bathrooms. There was a perfectly good continental breakfast included but a full breakfast was also available - I think at an added cost. The house is 1.5k from Edinburgh and 3 regular buses go to town at a cost of 1.50 per trip or 3.50 for a day ticket. I would high...
My Aunty and I stayed at the Leonardo Royal Hotel Edinburgh Haymarket in August as we were visiting Edinburgh! We had a great time. We were greeted with friendly staff and complimentary champagne on arrival which we thought was great. We sat in the lobby in these huge novelty throne-like chairs which made for great photos whilst sipping on our champagne! Our room was s...

My wife and I spent 4 days at the Bonham Hotel in Edinburgh. The hotel is ideally located for enjoying the beautiful city of Edinburgh. We walked into town every day and had a lot of fun exploring the entire city. The hotel is about a 5 minute walk from New Town and about a 5 minute walk from the Edinburgh Castle. We enjoyed the wide array of restaurants for dinner...
We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel, shame it has no pool like our usual hotel in Edinburgh. Great reception staff. The only downside to our stay was the cocktail bar where the staff took ages to serve you and when they did they got it wrong (tried to give us someone elses bill) Restaurant was excellent food and service and would reccommend.
My wife and I stayed for 1 night in a Club room with castle view for our anniversary, can honestly say it was one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in, everything clean and fresh and the food and facilities fantastic as were the staff who were very helpful and friendly. Spa facilities are second to none.
The place was fantastic, especially for family or group stay. The bus stop just in front of the restaurant, supermarket across the street, and it was very easy to reach the city center. I will stay here again when I visit Edinburgh next time.
I treated my 17 year old daughter to an over night stay. WE absolutely loved our stay. Everything was perfect and will be coming back again. I booked restaurant vouchers on Itison for Xmas presents and will be recommending to all my friends and family.
This was definitely a 5 star experience, highly recommended
We travel to Edinburgh regularly to visit our daughter at the university. We have stayed in many wonderful hotels (and have two regular ones same standard as the Balmoral)) but this was the first time at the Balmoral. make a list of all the attractions and sights you wish to visit. its a great city with plenty to do the quality of dining was fantastic and suited all types of budgets the only down side was the amount of homeless people who you came across every where in the city.
A quiet and not too crowded city, that offers a fantastic experience staying in the Old Town of the Edinburgh area.
Edinburgh is the most beautiful city in United Kingdom. It history and attractions make it even more attractive.
you should stay in london and save money for a good meal or shopping instead of sitting ur butt for almost 5 hours to go to Scotland which is not much different with London.

Edinburgh is a place with historical feel. Quite a lot of travel sites to visit like the castle, whisky museum. The food is nice and the choice for food is sufficient.

We went to Edinburgh when they had the Art Festival which was during August. The city was really full of fun.
Edinburgh is nice city to explore arising from the long history of British empire. However, my stay in the city is totally upset by unhelpful, rude hotel officer.
It is my favorite City in the world. You can wander and the history is everywhere. The shopping from Harvey nicks to primark is fantastic.
Getting around Edinburgh and highland of Scotland may takes more than 5 days. I was regret to plan only 3 days in scotland
The cities was very beautiful with old building surrounding it. Should spend maybe 2 night above to explore the town.

Charming place but expensive. great for seeing historical sights. The real action is out in the countryside which is beautiful.
An historic city with everything for everyone. We ate very well in Michelin starred restaurants, drank very good ale in the local pubs and had an enchanting afternoon tea at a tea shop selling antiques.
I had a good time in Edinburgh. It's not a big city. Two days should be enough. There are some tours you can take.
