Izu hotels & places to stay

Originally booked a small double room, but the room allows smoking . I worry that may have smell so I remind hotel to ensure the room is refreshed . Hotel was so kind to upgrade me to a non- smoking double room. Thus it was super valued . The room has an excellent view which facing the sea and the pool ! The hotel also offer shuttle to Kawasu station! If you like to walk, it only takes 20 minutes from hotel to the cherry blossom seeing spot which is a pretty easy and pleasant journey. It rained heavily in one afternoon during my stay, luckily I stayed in this hotel which I can walked around the shop, library and use the Onsen !

I'm 35, Canadian, my girlfriend is 25, Japanese. The bed, and the room is big, clean, and comfortable. Prior to booking this room, I read the other reviews- and noted guests complaining about the age of the hotel. Let's not forget that some of the finest hotels in N.Y., for example, are more than 100 years old. Age of a hotel does not render it 'old' or unsavory. This place is top class for what it is. It is very clean. The service is top level (you're in Japan- its hard to find poor service- as long as you are respectful yourself, and don't act like a typical 'What do you mean you don't speak English!?' type foreigner. The view from the room- I felt like I was in Koh Samui, Thailand. You won't believe you're only a 3 hr local train ride from Tokyo. It looks tropical, exotic, and literally- like you're in one of the southern islands off the coast of Okinawa. Maybe even better (seriously). The hotel is very close to the city center (15 min walk through beautiful traditional Japanese countryside alleys, homes, temples, etc). Along the way you'll see gorgeous little shops, restaurants, etc. They provide a free shuttle every hour- but seriously- the area around the hotel is so cool, it'd be a waste not to walk. The onsen (hot traditional pool) is open until 1 am every day (even in low season), and it is outdoor, overlooking the incredible ocean view. TIP: If you are coming from Tokyo: take the ITO LINE back to Atami. Trust me on this. It only runs a few times a day, its a brown colored train. But it's a special line that runs directly along the coast, the entire way, from Shimoda to Atami (from there you can take another local train or Shinkansen back to Tokyo). The scenery on this 90 min train ride is the best I've ever seen in Japan on any train route. Believe me, if you take the Ito Line back to Atami- it'll be one of the most memorable and romantic train rides you've taken in Japan. ;)

This onsen ryokan really blew us away with its beautiful japanese garden setting. Staff were all very friendly and helpful, polite and thoughtful. It is truly the experience of a japanese high end ryokan. The room we stayed had a private outdoor hot spring bath, the room itself was huge, had a living area as well as western twin beds. There was also a small garden outside the living room. The public hot spring bath was amazing, both indoor and outdoor, i thoroughly enjoyed every moment. Not to mention the Japanese meal which was fantastic as well. Lastly about the location, we rented a car so it was very convenient. The best thing about it is that its right next to the panorama park which has AMAZING views of mount fuji. Definitely a must visit place on your next trip to Izu.

I only came to Izu for the onsen experience and I probably came at a low-peak season as Izu was pretty much a ghost town. There was nothing to do in Izu anyway, it was just a small town with onsen hotels and a beach for surfers. I arrived at the station and the hotel's shuttle van driver was already waiting for my arrival despite me not making any pick-up arrangements. The hotel seemed empty but when I was ushered to my room, I guess I was only worried about nothing. Room is very clean, huge and I had an amazing view of the ocean! The staff here are friendly and I was pampered like a princess when they brought my meals to my room and prepared my futon before I turn in for the night. For an onsen town, the onsen at the hotel was only average as I have been to better ones. They had one indoors onsen with a view of the ocean and a smaller one outdoors, both on a high floor. There is no internet connection so I took it as a good opportunity to take a break from the outside world. But I succumbed to the lack of connection anyway by using the wifi connection that is only available in the lobby. Mosquitoes might be a problem here though but they have insect repellent for that. I guess my only regret is that I only stayed here for a night.

- I like this hotel very much, so I would say the pricing is good value for its services. - Location-wise, the hotel is about 10 mins walk from the Izu-Hokgawa station. And the station is about 2 - 4 hours from the Tokyo station depends on if you missed the limited JR express train which is covered by one of the JR passes. - The room is an old-fashion japanese style room and clean. - Staff are extremely friendly and willing to help. They address my needs and questions. Though they may not have a good command of English, they will do their best to assist. And I think this is a good service. - Facilities, the hotel is mainly for onsen. They have two kind of onsen services. One is general, you can have access to the general onsen bath located at 1st(ground) floor unlimited time. The other one is special onsen bath, you are entitled for 2 sessions (50 mins long each) for 1 night staying. Basically, you get your own private onsen suite for 50 mins with a gorgeous open view of the sea. The town doesn't have much to offer. It only got a convenience store about 3 mins walk from the hotel and also one public shore side onsen bath place. I was looking for a quiet, ocean-view hotel with great food. And this hotel offers exactly what I looked for. I do really enjoy the quietness and the ocean view of this hotel. Most of my staying time was spent on staring the sea in my quiet window room and do nothing. It is as best relaxing as I love. A big plus also comes with the great food. The dinner and breakfast were amazingly good. I guess making a great seafood meal is halfway done when you have the freshest supply just two steps away. All in all, I would recommend this hotel and I will definitely come back.

This was the first time my daughter and I visited Izu Peninsula. We stayed in a suite with private onsen at the balcony. The room was clean and spacious, and the sea view was gorgeous. The gentleman working at the reception counter was extremely polite and helpful. When we were leaving on the next day, the bus to the train station was going to depart in a few minutes but the hotel van was still on its way back. So this gentleman immediately got another car and drove us to the bus terminus. The only clawback about the hotel is its relatively remote location. It is situated at Dougashima on the west coast of Izu Peninsula. If you travel from Tokyo, you have to firstly take a 3-hour express train ride to Shimoda and then another hour's bus ride to Dougashima. The hotel is within walking distance from the bus terminus.

Chose this hotel because of excellent review, price and location. If you missed the last hotel shuttle ( like us from Izu-Atagawa station then you can still walk to hotel (< 10 min and down hill) with luggage from hakkawa station though there are few stairs when exit the station. In addition, the outdoor seaside Hakkawa Onsen is right next to the hotel (free for hotel guests), plus the 40 min private onsen from hotel so you get to enjoy the best of onsen without additional cost. We booked the Japanese style sea view room without realizing there is no private bath (which my daughter insisted to have). After we requested to exchange to a room with private bath, they upgraded us to a two-room suite with private bath (it was lucky they still have room with bath). We did not see non-Japanese tourist in the hotel. Though the front desk receptionist knew little English, they have know problem communicating with out request. Highly recommended!

We booked the Japanese style room with in-room hot spring. Before check in I thought it was quite expensive. But the good facilities, fantastic services and great Japanese food proved me wrong. If you get off at Shuzenji station, you can take a bus for Yoshina Onsen Guchi stop. Please do contact the hotel staff in advance for pick up at Yoshina Onsen Guchi stop. The hotel staff will also ask the time slots you prefer for breakfast and dinner. There’s a Japanese restaurant and a bakery in the resort. It was said that you could view the peak of Mountain Fuji on top of the small hill in the resort, but I didn’t make it to the end.

I stayed at Tenyu for one night. It's perfectly located with a magnificent view to the rocks in the sea. The public onsen has the same view. Breakfast was hearty and delicious. The hotel staff made my experience unforgettable. Mika is a lady who works at the hotel and she was super helpful with giving me information and making me feel welcome. She went an extra mile for that with a beautiful smile. The room was perfectly clean with welcome tea served both in the lobby and the room. I LOVED my stay and I would come back to this place. Thank you for your hospitality!

Start from Shuttle bus. Driver friendly and helpful. Check in process. Well prepared for our arrival. Rather than stand at counter, we completed the whole process by sitting at desk with a very kindly speaking staff. Staff took us to our room, checked and changed the pajama size for my little one while explaining all hotel facilities. Dinner is a highlight. What a feast! You definitely don't want to miss out. A set meal plus choices of hot dishes and desserts. Onsen, pretty much same as other onsen hotels. The room is cosy. The view from the room is fantastic. Tatami nice and comfortable, air-conditioning is adjustable. Breakfast variety wise is reasonable. A shop between two restaurants sells quite many stuff, prices are the same as outside. Check out process is very efficient. When we sat on the shuttle bus, a staff helped us put luggage in the bus then ran back into the hotel, surprisly gave my girl a small handmade souvenir. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel

We wanted to stay in the Izu peninsula and this was the most affordable place. The view is great from the rooms and the common spaces. The town is small and cute, but there’s not a lot to do, other than some fine restaurants and nice shops of hanging hina dolls. The onsen is ok, the view from there was not as awesome as I expected. Hotel staff was nice but language barrier made it difficult to ask for recommendations.

A modernised Japanese style hotel, all flooring is covered by tatami and therefore just walk around the hotel with bare foot, socks are also provided. Spacious room with comfortable beds, suits with bathroom and toilet. We didn't use during our stay because the private Orsen room is more spacious for shower with more than enough amenities. There are 4 private Orsen Room , all of them are facing the coast , semi open aired which you can enjoy some fresh air at the hot bath, also some sunlight during the day. I came during the off-peak season, so we could enjoy the Orsen anytime without queuing. Free Wifi service and staffs are helpful but be aware that most staffs don't understand English, google translate was helpful. My stay included 2 meals a day, all meals were very satisfying and delicious, definitely will come again!

The hotel felt really big and comfortable. You can think it was a little old, but the atmosphere was really good and the service was excellent. When I was guided into the room, it was really amazing inside and we were really satisfied. The spa was bigger than I thought, and the water was really good. Breakfast is very delicious and I am really satisfied with their service.

The food is good - all about seafood as it is about Izu. The onsen is awesome - simply great.!! Great view - to the Izu sea.! Rooftop.! Open air.!! The staff are very helpful, two of them can speak fluent English. In this little village this is a very good service. In particular the young man called Fumi who served me in the 3 days - super helpful, offers me all the information I need, speaks fluent English. Great, Fumi, big THANK YOU to you (I am Mr. Wong : ) ) The location is very remote, though shuttle bus service is offered. Anyway I drive myself. It is very expensive, in such a fishing village. I stayed there on Friday and Saturday nights - not sure if this is the reason. Anyway what it offers is GREAT.

The hotel was a very nice property considering the remote location on the Izu Peninsula. there are a number of items that you should know and perhaps put into you hotel description of services. 1. The hotel offers free shuttle service to the Shimoda Train Station at certain hours of the day which I was not aware of when I booked through this website. 2. Upon checkin my wife and I were directed to the front desk for checkin. However, other Japanese guests that were checking in were taken to the lounge on the side of the lobby to fill out their registration forms. They were brought tea and snack as they sat and filled out forms. I felt this was not appropriate being a foreigner from Hawaii. (gaijin) Japanese guests were treated differently that gaijin. I saw this with 2 other gaijin couples also at other times during our stay. 3. There are a number of other items that are not explained correctly when checking in. We made dinner reservations for the 1st night which was a wonderful experience. when we returned to our room, our futon was nicely laid out, and a pitcher of ice cold water was also placed in our room. we didn't make reservations for dinner the 2nd night thus our room was NOT made up or water brought to the room. this was not clear when we checked in. If you don't have dinner reservations in the hotel then you do NOT get any turndown service. It makes you feel like if you don't eat at their ONE restaurant then you don't get the same service... 4. Although I speak Japanese and my wife is Japanese also, they could use someone in the hotel that speaks a little more English that would help out nicely for foreigners of English speaking background. 5. They give guests a sheet of paper with some explanations of services, but it is not written clearly enough to understand all that they have on property.

Our experience of staying there was very pleasant. My wife was sick and could not go to dinner with us during our stay. The restaurant in-charge offered to send the whole set of meal or other food to the room for her. Finally we ordered congee for her. The food was delivered to the room with words of concern and good wishes from the hotel. Also, the sunset scene at the hotel was fantastic.

It took 45 mins of bus travelling time to get there, but it’s worth. The hotel is located almost at mountain peak, can see the Fuji mountain. A lot of facilities include tennis counts - tennis rackets are available as well. The hot spring rooms are at the top floor, allows customers to look at the Fuji mountain, very romantic, and relaxing. I visit the hot spring in the evening and early morning, wonderful experience. The hotel rooms are very big with western styled beds and Japanese Ttm. The view is stunning even thought my room is facing non Fuji side. The staff are very polite and helpful. I was the only foreigner in the hotel, so good to not hear other Asian languages. The garden is another amazing area.
