Now lets start on the real review: To start off- I noticed reviews for Hotel the Villa were all over the place, but after staying here, I think a lot of the negatives come from people not researching the neighborhood before booking and it didn't meet with their expectations. The hotel is okay and acceptable for an inexpensive stay in LIC/Queens that's close to the LaGuardia airport and nearby bus stops/subway station. Just be realistic of what you are paying for considering NYC accommodation standards. Pros: Lets start with the price: I paid *** per night for 3 nights plus $20.00 after taxes/NYC resort fees. To be fair that's cheap for NYC private hotel rates close to Midtown Manhattan. The room was surprisingly spacious for NYC. It was kept very clean with frequent room service (fresh towels and daily bed-making). It also came with a mini-fridge to keep my food and drinks cool. The bathroom was a highlight! It was very modern and well maintained. My room also had a stunning view of the Manhattan skyline, which was excellent. The location is super convenient. It’s a 7–10 minute walk to the 21st St-Queensbridge (M/F line) and also close walking distance to the Q103/B62 Bus Stops. Making it easy to get into Manhattan or deeper into Queens quickly. There are plenty of local bodegas, delis, drug stores and cafes nearby. If you want more familiar chain restaurants, a quick bus ride or walk south will take you to Hunter’s Point and has everything you need. Cons: The queen mattress was wrapped in plastic. It wasn't the most comfortable to sleep on and felt like a way to hide the age/condition of the mattress. The hair dryer in the room was broken(the hotel did not have a replacement) and the ice machine in the basement didn't work once during my stay. Additionally, the shower did not come with any shampoo, body wash or conditioner so expect to bring your own stuff regarding that. The front desk workers were hardly there when needed. The phone to call the front desk simply did not work. The amenities were limited(no laundry rooms, fitness center, free breakfast/drinks, etc), but that's really fine and expected considering what you pay for. I agree with the other reviews stating that the hotel is next to a rundown/industrial/unsafe area of LIC/Queens. However, the hotel is LITERALLY next to the Housing Projects(Queensbridge Houses)...lets be so real here. If you stay vigilant and walk with confidence, people mind their business, but just be aware of your surroundings at evenings/night. Also, don’t expect to find "tourist activities" right outside the door. You will be taking the train or bus for everything. Let’s address the elephant in the room: They charge a $20 CASH-ONLY fee to store luggage if you arrive early or need to leave bags after checkout. This is my biggest issue of this hotel. From my experience of staying in hotels in NYC; this is ALWAYS a free and included service with the hotel. Charging $20 cash for this feels like a total scam and the owners should feel bad about charging people those rates. I highly recommend declining their luggage storage offer and use apps like Bounce or LuggageHero and it will be a cheaper rate than what they are offering. Overall opinions: The hotel is just okay and the location actually was great considering the price. If you need somewhere cheap to stay in NYC AND you are realistic about your expectations, then this place is fine to book. However, the scummy luggage fee left a really sour taste in my mouth and for that, I won't book this hotel again in the future. The owners should
