Beautiful hotel. The location is perfect for amazing views of the lake and access to watersports/lake activities, local towns and nearby sights. The hotel is clean, the breakfast is hearty and the staff are kind, helpful and cheerful. In a word, they're all outstanding. Only downside was the lack of aircon in the room but the weather was unusually warm during our stay.
Had a great two nights there. Ideal location as you can walk into Ambleside and Bowness easily. Rooms were lovely and clean and very quiet. Had a meal in the blue smoke restaurant which was good too. I didn’t use the spa but it looked great. Breakfast was a winner too, very well cooked.
Fantastic spot and clean but biggest fault is pool is closed in the day, told on checkout could pre book, sorry I don’t wanna pre book and plan my day around a swim, to use outside pool had to pay and book and lastly breakfast was ok bacon ruined by being left in hot plate paying this amount maybe expect freshly cooked breakfast…
Our welcome upon arrival was not good. I thought I had booked a lake view room for my wife's special birthday, but was told I'd have to pay £275 to upgrade for 2 nights if I wanted a view of the water! There was no availability in either restaurant for both nights (Friday and Saturday). I was told I should have booked dinner in advance!! The next surprise was that we had no access to the outdoor pool/spa, unless we paid an additional £65 per person per day!!! We only had limited access to the standard pool/spa between 07.30-10.00 and 17.30 - 20.00!!!! Upon check out, I was charged £12 per day for parking, plus £1 to 'plant a tree'!!!! Virtually every other customer I spoke with felt that they were mis sold this so called luxury hotel and spa experience. Furthermore, our Willow courtyard room room was dated and certainly not 4*. I also had to clean the toilet myself!!!!! To bring balance, the location of the hotel 1 mile from Ambleside is idyllic and the breakfast was excellent. However, the hotel needs to focus more on prioritising its residents over selling Spa packages. Customers booking through 3rd party sites like Agoda, etc. should not be treated like 2nd class citizens which is how I felt during our stay. My wife and I will not be returning to Low Wood Bay Hotel. There are surely better hotels in the Lake District with far better customer service and which offer greater value for money. David - Fife

We had a positive stay overall - the staff were friendly, the place was clean, the location was good, and the food was excellent (especially the breakfast). However, it should be noted that if you’re only staying as a basic resident, you’re not entitled to a lot of the amenities, such as the Winandee Club bar / restaurant, or indeed any of the spa facilities (other than the indoor pool area for a couple of hours early AM or Evening time). This isn’t made clear when you book and as such you’re left feeling a little short changed. Other than that, no complaints.
