    “Exceptional”

Enjoyed staying at this quiet Ryokan. Excellent location, by the bridge and the view from the room overlooking the river..so beautiful and love watching snow falling. Excellent dinner & breakfast- so much effort was made to present it beautifully & tastefully. Felt very welcome and staff not intrusive. The spa was excellent, especially the outdoor views and sake was much appreciated too.

    “It is kind and neat.”

I hesitated because the price range includes kaiseki and breakfast (700,000 won for three people), but it was a good trip. Kaiseki seems to have mixed reviews like others mentioned. The menu was somewhat healthy? It was mainly plant-based and fish, and had a unique taste. Since it's a course meal, it takes about 90 to 120 minutes. The breakfast came as a set menu with a variety of dishes, and the freshly cooked rice was delicious. The large public bath isn't very big, but the outdoor bath was refreshing, and the staff were very friendly. I read reviews mentioning an unpleasant smell due to it being an older ryokan, but we were fine. There was a slight wood smell, but it wasn't bothersome, and the facilities were very well maintained and clean, with a modern interior. I definitely want to visit again. By the way, the parking lot is at the back, so it's better to drop off your luggage at the front gate and then move the car. The location is a bit disappointing. Make sure to buy some food at a convenience store before going in.

“It is an old-fashioned and good hot spring inn.”

It snowed heavily the day before my stay, and I was very grateful for the pickup by car, as my footing was unstable. The inn had parts built during the Meiji era, with some additions made during the Showa era, so there were some ups and downs which might cause confusion at first, but I felt it was a remnant of history. The hot springs included a spacious indoor bath with low-temperature water, as well as an outdoor bath, where I leisurely enjoyed soaking multiple times. The meals were delicious, and it was clear that they were carefully prepared. I believe the different types of rice served for breakfast and dinner reflect their commitment to food quality. Coincidentally, there was a banquet by a local group, but it didn’t bother me at all, and I was able to spend the night in true tranquility. Although there was a television, I felt no need to watch it. The building is old, but the interior was very well maintained, and I could sense that the staff were attentive. While I may not have the opportunity to visit often, I hope to have the chance to stay again in the future.

“I will definitely come back at least once within 10 years.”

I came to Hida Furukawa from Nagoya to visit this accommodation, and I really think I could endure traveling this far again for this place. The tranquil atmosphere of the lodging, the kindness that exceeded my expectations, the bath, the meals, and the exceptional treatment I received which I have never experienced in my life made it all worth it. However, the kaiseki didn't suit my taste, so walking 20 minutes to the convenience store felt a bit far, but even walking down the quiet streets was romantic. There are inconveniences and the distance is a drawback, but it's a place worth enduring again to return.

    “I love this place”

The room is super nice and comfortable, the onsen inside the room is perfect. The interior is traditional and beautiful. I can stay inside the ryokan for a whole day. The food is delicious and i really like it. It’s a bit far from the train station, but ryokan has transport supported.
