A charming boutique hotel”

We absolutely love this hotel! We happened to visit the hotel during Christmas and they have arranged for a Christmas Dinner with fun and games for all the guests. Our room was in the palace wing, an excellent choice! There was even a fireplace in the room to keep us warm at night. The hotel was a former Maharaja residence and there were portraits of the previous owner(s) and their family members all around the hotel. It was kind of creepy but these are what gave the hotel some personal touch and you really feel as if you were in a different era. The Mall Street is merely 15mins away by foot. We've requested a private day trip to Kufri and with a minimal fee, we found it was worth every penny! Our guide was very knowledgable and he seems to love his job. Will definitely come here again on our next trip to Shimla.

Cold, cold, cold!”

We met the owner who was at pains to say that as this was designed as a "Summer Palace" - a Heritage property, it would be inappropriate to install central heating. In that case it would seem reasonable for it only to be open in summer months because the inside temperature completely spoiled our stay in Shimla. In common with most hotels the floors were tiled which for bathroom visits in the night was torture! The 1st room we were shown, 1 of the Heritage rooms was so cold and had a water leak in the bathroom. We asked to be moved and this was done without question. The food was not good; scarily undercooked chicken and the rice dish failed to arrive. Huddled around an electric fire in the company of Indian nationals wrapped in blankets and outdoor coats in a lovely dining room is a strange experience Staff were great but the restaurant's dinner service was woefully inadequate. Given this, it was disappointing that the owners and some personal guests felt they should take priority - not good at all. On the upside, in the mad city of Shimla, this hotel was quietly located in very attractive grounds. Take care when visiting the Temple where very vicious monkeys attack without warning. My spectacles were ripped off, taken up a tree and broken. A chocolate bar secured their return by locals who clearly commonly see such events. There should be warning notices at this well advertised tourist spot

A very warm stay, great place to be!”

We stayed in this hotel in Dec'18. And I must say the hotel's old charm, palace like ambience, courteous staffs, very warm and comfortable rooms - altogether made a great stay. We had got room on 1st floor, in Dec cold room was very warm. I would recommend this hotel, would like to stay here on my next visit as well. The hotel is at one ed of the Mall road, quiet and clean - you would love the walk around mall road.

Enjoy London in Simla - the greenery and rain”

We had a pleasant stay however I seriously think that it was not value for money. With a little effort, Woodville Palace can be a crowd puller. Small things need to improve to make staying an experience.

Overpriced for the services”

Decent stay services however the hotel is not suited for children. Also, the food is overpriced as compared to other hotels in Shimla. Location is good as it is away from hustle bustle of Mall road but still in a very walking distance of mall road. Ample parking space hence no complaints on that front. Good plush garden outside.

Old charm”

Old Maharaja residence, tons of Charme. Facilities not always up-to-date, e.g. wifi. A 15' walk from the center through a rather dark stretch of woods, at night.

Value for Money”

The Hotel is away from Mall Road approx 2 KM. Nice Big rooms. Only issue is that room service is not available for Lunch/Dinner. Still a good hotel.

Beautiful Hotel with old world charm”

It was a beautiful Hotel with old fashioned rooms. The rooms were kind of cold during the night even though it was April & the A/c s were increased to the highest temperature. Lovely garden. Helpful staff. Good food. Enjoyed our stay.

Pleasant. Nothing much except history.”

Pleasant. Quite far from Mall road. By local taxi it would cost you anything between 200 to 250 one way. Very expensive. Please do not use the car from the hotel. They charge you a flat rate of 2300/- to visit some points which we covered in half a day. Hire the taxi from out which would cost you around Rs.2000/- for the whole day. Bathrooms not very clean and the place is dusty and not very well maintained. Overall, pleasant for honeymooners.

hotel location was very good and even food was excellent. but service's were very poor. but all in all it was very good experience

Gorgeous art deco heritage hotel in need of upgrade”

Royal Suite was fab with period furniture and loads of charm but standard and deluxe rooms very basic and worn stained bathrooms and shabby furniture resembled a backpacker haunt. Restaurant and bar areas charming with lots of period details but freezing cold in January and little atmosphere. Such a shame as staff excellent and helpful and house magnificent. Needs a serious decoration boost from manager to get the place up to standard.
